I'm STUFFED and I FELT like it!

We saved $1.75 on stuffing for a pillow my daughter wanted to make. It was on clearance on the 'after Christmas sale' because it was advertised to be used as a blanket of snow. It might work better as quilt batting.

So why can't we use lint from the dryer trap for batting??? It's been cleaned and dried and was on our clothes after all.... is it that bad? A Facebook friend posted about making dryer lint felt... gotta try this one day.

Cream Soup Anyone?

from Tightwad Gazzette - Cream Soup Mix

2 cups dry milk powder

1 1/4 cups cornstarch or 2 1/2 cups flour ( I use cornstarch)

1/4 cup chicken bouillon powder ( I use none because I use fresh or saved chicken broth)

2T. dried onion flakes

1/2 t. pepper

optional - 1 T. thyme and 1 T. basil ( I don't use these either)

I mix a few T. of this dry mix in about 1/2 cup cold water then pour into boiling hot broth. It thickens quickly so stir.

I cook noodles in the broth first then add cream mix.

Double Cooking

Cooking biscuits & brownies together this morning in order to conserve fuel.

You could also cook cornbread for a later meal or to make dressing.

Always try to cook more than one thing while using the oven. It may add a few extra minutes to the cook time but it won't be as long as cooking them separately. A lot of people already do this on holidays.

Sunday Pie

Sunday Pie

Mix together and press into bottom of greased baking dish.

Muffins

Muffins

2-2 1/2 cups of whole grain flour

2 tsp baking powder

1 cup of water... mix with 5 tablespoons of dry milk

1/4 cup of applesauce or fat, oil, lard, margarine etc...

1 tablespoon of soy flour or 1 egg

1/2 cup or less of sweetener.... unrefined sweetener is best (not white sugar)

1/2 tsp of sea salt or none at all

add up to 1 1/2 cups of additions.... nuts, fruits, etc...OR add lots of cinnamon and more sweetener included into the batter then also on top.

Bake at 400F for 15-25 minutes. I set the oven timer for the shortest time then turn the oven off for remaining cook time.

Bunting

When it's time to butcher a rabbit, my daughter wants to learn to tan the hide. She has always wanted to make a muff.

It would be disrespectful to just throw the hide away like I hear that so many hunters do all the time. Put the hide in a baggie and freeze it. Donate the hide to someone who wants to learn to tan. Leather and hides are nice to have, but people need to learn how to not waste even if the bullets made a few holes. RESPECT.
